For the 7th year in a row, BMC Software’s award-winning workload automation platform Control-M has been voted top of the EMA Radar Report for Workload Automation and Orchestration. The industry analyst and consulting firm Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) thus confirms that Control-M has achieved the highest overall score among the evaluated providers and is the value leader among workload automation solutions.
With BMC Control-M, companies can automate IT processes and easily orchestrate application and data workflows — on-premises (as BMC Control-M), as a service (as BMC Helix Control-M), in the public or private cloud or hybrid. The focus of BMC Control-M and BMC Helix Control-M is currently on driving innovation through end-to-end orchestration, simplifying and scaling data pipelines and supporting DevOps, according to the EMA Radar Report: “Supported by a variety of integrations, various workflows including file transfers, applications, data sources and infrastructure can be managed, and data pipelines orchestrated.”
Control-M provides end-to-end workflow connectivity between applications, data sources and information storage systems and connects mainframe systems with cloud environments to ensure seamless integration. While predictive analytics support the management of Service Level Agreements (SLA), audits and comprehensive log and output management ensure compliance, governance and efficient monitoring.
The EMA Radar Report 2023 highlights the following functions of Control-M, among others:1
- Collaboration between DevOps and developers: Thanks to the jobs-as-code strategy, developers and DevOps engineers can create testable and maintainable workflows, which promotes their collaboration. The “Workbench” (development environment) and “Workload Change Manager” functions facilitate the development and implementation of application workflows as well as automation in complex hybrid environments.
- Self-Service: BMC Control-M and BMC Helix Control-M provide self-service interfaces for developers, data and cloud engineers, business users and IT operations teams. The self-service features include intuitive web and mobile interfaces and show relevant business services, real-time job status, webinars and demos, among others. Self-service accelerates the development and deployment of workflows while maintaining a secure orchestration framework with permissions and controls.
- File transfers: Managed File Transfer (MFT) automates the secure, centralized transfer of internal and external files and provides features such as automatic recovery, directory synchronization and search. The MFT server limits access via a list of authorized users and improves protection and automation for enterprise services.
- Mainframe Modernization: Control-M supports the transition to move mainframe applications and data to the cloud to improve business services and agility.
- Data Pipeline: BMC Control-M and BMC Helix Control-M optimize data processing from raw data to actionable insights. They provide automation for complex application and data pipelines in hybrid and multi-cloud environments and manage data ingestion, storage, processing and transfer to the analytics layers.
