How BKW digitalizes connection management
The digitalization of technical connection requests at BKW was the focus of a project that we, as a digitalization partner, implemented for the energy provider BKW Energie. The goal of the solution: to improve cross-departmental information flow and reduce media disruptions.
Initial situation and challenges
Due to the energy transition, the number of technical connection requests has increased significantly, and BKW faces the challenge of adapting its distribution networks to the growing power demand. Homeowners report planned installations such as heat pumps, photovoltaic systems, or charging stations, and BKW assesses the network capacity in the respective transformer circuit.
The previous process was hindered by media disruptions and redundant data entry, leading to delays and increased effort. We developed a workflow solution to optimize cross-departmental information flow and seamlessly integrate request data.

The implemented solution supports the network connection management and project management teams in processing technical connection requests by automatically transferring relevant data into a request dossier. An integrated dashboard provides stakeholders with a transparent overview of the status of requests and supports internal communication. Automated notifications inform customers and partners when projects are completed and network capacities are released.
The platform used: Axon Ivy
The process solution is based on the Axon Ivy automation platform, which offers extensive functionalities for modeling and monitoring workflows. It also enables the consolidation of data from various systems and the implementation of automated processes.
Through the combination of agile software development (SCRUM) and continuous delivery, we successfully implemented a customized and efficient solution for BKW.
