Digitalization of cadastral processes in the Canton of Zurich with the award-winning process solution “KatasterprozesseZH” by FROX
In collaboration with us as a digitization specialist and the process automation expert Axon Ivy, the Building Department of the Canton of Zurich has developed the process solution KatasterprozesseZH. This online portal supports the specialist offices in the cadastre of public-law property restrictions (PLR; German: ÖREB) in processing PLR tracking processes in the area of communal and cantonal planning, forest boundaries, groundwater protection zones and building lines.
This digitization project achieved the goal of providing all those involved, such as the municipality, planning office, cadastral processing organizations (CPO) and cantonal office, with a digital platform. This guides users through the processes, facilitates the exchange of information and ensures that the cadastral processes are up-to-date, transparent and of high data quality. “With the web application KatasterprozesseZH we are able to successfully guide users from different organizations through the complex PLR update processes and provide the documents centrally,” says Marcel Frei, Head of Operations PLR-cadastre at the Building Department of the Canton of Zurich, summarising the key advantages of the solution.
This innovative process solution was awarded with the “Industry Excellence Award: Public for 2023” by Axon Ivy, which recognizes outstanding achievements in the public sector in the redesign of administration and the digital provision of services for citizens. “We are proud of this joint award, which shows how the digitalization of administrative processes can increase efficiency and better support Swiss society,” says Dr. Hanspeter Seiler, Project Manager and Head of Digitalization at FROX AG.

The implementation of KatasterprozesseZH is the cornerstone for easier cooperation between the specialist agencies and municipalities in the canton of Zurich. With the decision to extend the work with KatasterprozesseZH to all 160 Zurich municipalities, this process solution will be in use throughout the canton from 1 June 2023. “This success underlines the pioneering role of the Canton of Zurich in the digitalization of cadastral processes, and we are pleased to continue to accompany the Building Department on its digital journey,” says Seiler.
